Tint

How can I remove the Tint off my rear windsheild? I really don't want to spend 45 dollars having some strangers touch my car. Its starting to bubble...looks bad. The rear window does have frosters. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated!

I think you can. I think you need to use a hairdryer to heat it up and peel it off. then use something to get rid of the adhesive, maybe wd40 or something.

But don't take my word on it.

Earlier tint products were prone to "lifting" in rear windows with defroster elements (which is what is happening in your case).

To add to that, the adhesive used is far more difficult to remove than the latest tint products.

Tint shops do use a heat gun to remove old tint, but really old tint requires something like kerosene...messy work, and takes awhile! I did it once back in '88, and it was a PITA!

It would be cheaper to just have the tint replaced rather than removed, since most shops will remove the old tint free of charge when installing new.

I agree most shops will do it for little or no charge if you have them tint it for you. I do 85% of the work on my car, have removed tint from cars several times, and I would not want to do the back window ever again. When I had my 300E tinted two months ago, they removed all stickers and tinted 4 sides and back window with metalized tint for $120.

If you are sure you want to DIY, check your local car store, auto section of superstore they will have tools and solvents that can help you.

you might want to check into having a shop that specializes in 3M tint..that tint is Guaranteed for life and if it fails or bubbles they will relpace it for free.

it also holds the color and doesnt fall off the windows.
