'86 420 SEL Front Interior Light Not Working

Hi, my front overhead light doesn't work in any switch position. The bulb and fuse are good. Any troubleshooting tips from your experiences would really help me out. Thanks!

From both doors?
Do the red seat belt lights flash?
Do the lights in the bottom of the doors work?

Hi, Doc. The overhead seat belt warning light and buzzer don't work, the lamps at the bottom of the doors , red and white, don't work, from either front door, no position of the overhead switch does anything. The rear overhead light comes on when either rear door is opened. The rear light works from the switch on the console.
All the lights worked when I got the car in Dec. 2003, but all four door-bottom lamps and the 3rd brake lamp were all damaged by heat, apparently from hot bulbs. I never understood quite how this happened. The door-bottom lamps were so bad they fell to pieces so I took the bulbs out of the two front ones. I plan to replace them. One of the door panels was damaged slightlu, the lamp got so hot. Everything else but the junky radio, soon to be replaced, works. I can not find a failed fuse. Thanks for any advice, I have repaired lots of things on this car over the past 6 years with the help I've found here.

Randy, it sounds like the previous owner installed higher wattage lamps than required. Check the Owner's Manual for the correct wattage. It's best to use Osram Sylvania replacement lamps.

I would check the seat belt warning buzzer relay. This also buzzes when you have the key in the ignition and you open the front driver's door. This relay also affectsthe flashing seat belt light, and the bottom door lights.
You may have smoked the circuit board in it.
It lives on the bracket just above your brake pedal, attached to the cruise control computer.

Thanks, will check this as it has not sounded in a while.
I scored two instrument panels: '84 and '87, $22 ea, and the oh console switch assembly, plus three under-door lamps, this morning. Dangit; forgot to get the third brake light. When I go back I will get the buzzer.
