Is this a Limited 190E
Hi guys,
I'm looking at buying this as a project car - probably the best example I can find around here as they are all real dogs. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/MercedesBenz/190E/auction-334917646.htm Question is it has a limited badge on it, but weren't limiteds only 2.3s and 2.6's ? |

That badge, at least in the US, would be fake. There were no "limited" editions up until 1995 I believe...and very late 95.

Never seen a "Limited Edition" 190.
Did MB actually produce a limited edition low end model? I did find this: http://www.silverstaroutfitters.com/index.cfm?fa=p&pid=6901&cid=181 The only difference is a few more bling bling it seems. |

Both the 2.3 and 2.6 in '93 came in Limited Edition with the 2.6 getting genuine carbon fiber fascia on the dash and red trimmed black leather upholstery. The 2.3 got the same but with a full wood dash fascia.
Both were slightly lowered. Really nice looking when maintained. |

huh, so you've seen a 1995 w201? there were limited edition 190's. they had wood dash kits and either full leather or half leather seats similar to the one in the pic. the pictured 190 just appears to have w124 seats, the limited edition seats are like a cross between 16v full leather and w124 full leather (non-sport) seats.

limited edition and sportline were not the same. people confuse them because in 1993 they had a sportline limited edition in the US that most people associate with the limited edition. there were actually several 'limited edition' w201's, including, for example, the avantgarde azzurro http://luxury-x.blogspot.com/2008/05/mercedes-benz-190e-avantgarde.html

Lots of interesting discussion. I had thought it was just a plain old 201 when I looked at it.
However the VIN is - WDB2010242F728738 Maybe someone could look it up ? I tried the russian site but is out of action. |

There were other differences too. I have some photocopied MB material on them somewhere. The 2.6's were black and the 2.3's were a pretty green color, I can't remember the 2.3 interior color. The 2.6 was a more sporty car and the 2.3 more luxo. As was said the 2.6 had a red interior that looked really sporty, not your standard seats in it.
The one that is being asked about in not a Limited Edition.

The 2.6 "Limited Edition" had the Sportline package included but not the badging. Sportline was an optional package, not a W201 model, IIRC.
Nice looking, as I said before, if it is well maintained. Repairing any damaged upholstery can be expensive. |

Also, the 2.3 had cream leather interior, not the red and black as I stated earlier.

Wow, information all over the place.
There were US model Limited Editions in 1993 only. The rest of the world got various "Limited Editions" in different configurations. In the US Model Limited Editions, 700 each 2.3 and 2.6L were sold in 1993. In the US 2.3L, the changes were primarily cosmetic (paint, leather seats, wood trim), while the 2.6L received the Sportline option package (steering, lowering springs, wheels, seating) and trim. The 2.6L Limited has a "debadged" trunk lid. So, for the 2.6L, all Limited Editions are Sporlines, but not all Sportlines are Limited Editions. |

All sounds right to me. I thought the 2.3's were debadged too, can't remember if there were "limited edition" badges on either one? I could dig out that info if anyone wanted. I wasn't aware of what was done in other countries, I think the original poster was in England, so maybe it is something "real".
