A friend has a car that has leaked transmission fluid for some time. I spoke with a transmission shop who said to not flush/exchange the fluid because it might break up the metal particles and cause a shift malfunction. They also shop said to just change the fluid and filter and keep driving but to NOT flush/fluid exchange. I've looked into the BG transmission fluid exchange machine and wondered if I was given good advice or if a total fluid flush/exchange would be best for a tired transmission. Any ideas?

how does the fluid look and smell. changes the fluilded will not stop the leak,fix leak.
pressure cleaning the traine you can brake lose metal and the fluild has rubber in it helping it to work . cleaning and replacing fluild , can kill the traine metal in pump , the rubber help's the traines pump to work, if it is borderline. So you clean traine install new fulter, getting it clean inside and cleaning all the cooler lines.
An it only last couple of week's and traine take a dump. have had 2 chevy traines (R7 the over drive)the pump's housing where made of allum.[ so the magnets would not pic the metal out of fluild ]. know they have steal pump housing tranes] where in late 80 early 90 trucks .I had 2 cleaned by aamco, both never made 1 month,till traines went.

What car is it?

I am personally against any type of fluid flush in the engine or transmission. I would never subject either of my cars to a flush, nor ever recommend a transmission flush for any 722.3-.5 transmission. Can't speak for any others though.

Sounds to me like the transmission shop is right. Fluid + filter and be done with it.

there was redemption however....it got me into my first 300e

Benzs are different... they have a torque converter drain. Heck, if you crack the line at the oil cooler- you can get almost all the old fluid out. Do it with the fluid hot.
machine flush seems like a waste of $$$.

On the earlier cars you can drain the torque converter and change the fluid in the pan and replace the filter, which is quite complete. You could compare it to changing the oil on the engine, no one recommends using a flushing machine on the engine, right? Because you get out 99% of the old oil, same on the older trannies.
On the later trannies, 722.6 and up, I wouldn't do that either b/c you'll probably get a bunch of the non-approved atf in it, plus I don't recommend doing a trans fluid change on those in most cases anyways.
