W140: Cleaning Inside of Front Lense Covers???

Just got my car back from Ferrara's Autobody in Montclair, NJ after I had major accident damage to the left front end and side. The car looks brand new. What a great job! My question; the inside of the right side headlight cover has faded/gotten dirty over the years. Is there a way to get in there and clean it out so it looks like my new lense cover just installed by Ferrara's on the left side???

Exposure to the elements kills those headlight "doors", as my Dealer calls them.

I suggest you simply replace the second one, or they'll never match:(

I would contact the body shop that did the work and have them do a supplement on the claim. They matched before the accident so they should still match! If they have to replace a tire they do it in pairs so I would see no reason they should not do it for the lights. Have the shop mention that is could be a safety concern as it could cause uneven light output. (not really a safety issue but that usually gets the insurance company moving!) I would have them change the bulb as well while they are at it. It is worth the time as it would save you the parts and the labor.

I agree with Silver Boat but the lens CAN be taken off and cleaned. I clean mine about once per year. If it is the original american lens it will be glued on but not so much that you can't take it off. When replacing, buy the european lens as it has a better pattern and can be purchased without buying the whole assembly.

How do you take off the lens? I have Eruo lights and there are clips holding on the lens, i think I could just pop them off but I was afraid I could not get them back on without a special tool.

Just pop them off, but make sure you get all of them off. The lense should then come off. Be carefull cleaning the chrome part of the housing, it will scratch easily. The clips will go back on. Just hook one end and apply pressure and it will pop on.
