That is a bunch of car for 20k, but I wonder how much it will cost to replace all of those air bags. Also remember that the Sheet metal will have to come from Mercedes. And you will have to take it to a Mercedes repair center for the body work because of the complex alignment issues.

...recently had a chance to see a 2000 E55 in a mall parking lot- - upon closer inspection the body had waves all over and very dull paint

spoke to the owner and he informed that the car was purchased with a salvaged title for cheap, but he didn't care since it was a "hella" fast car, an 2000 model year, and that the 20" wheels totally turn the car out.

I congratulated him, but the paint and body refinishing foretold that the car was totaled and not refinished close to OEM standards...nonetheless- the owner was happy

So- the salvage CL500/project depends on your ownership standards and none else's...

check the dec.2000 Consumers Report about an MB that was totaled and rebuilt and then sold several times. It is interesting information mainly because it gives you a heads-up about cars that were junked and -due to different state laws- can be sold as regular cars, hiding the fact that they were involved in a major accident. The heart-of -the-matter is the quality of the repair and the parts used.

Anyway, I had my friend who works at Downtown LA Mercedes take a look at the car. He tells me that I'm looking at about close to $20k in repairs, that including labor and parts. And you guys are right the frame does need some pulling. The list of repairs comes to about 3 pages worth. The title for some reason is clear not a salvage, I check this car with my local police department making sure that it wasn't stolen, which it wasn't. For about $40k and change I got a new (old) CL500. That a tremedous bargin and probably can sell it later for a profit considering it only has 1900 miles on it. Thanks for the advice.

P.s. I asked him how much brought the car from the LAPD for he told me $17,850. Why so low, don't know. He tells me that another mercedes should be going on the auction block.
