Plastic key head broken?

Here's a quick & easy repair if your key head cracked or broke. You may have seen the home made wood key head? It looks nice but some of us might not be able to do one. So, DON'T buy a new key if you don't need one - replace the head. *NOTE* THIS part number is for keys 2mm thick. If you have 3mm thick keys you might need another part number in the same family. Either way, you'll save some $$$.

Here's where you start.
1. Key repair parts.
2. Broken head with 2mm and 3mm keys.
3. You get the two black pieces.
4. Slide the lock end through the LARGE hole first...then all the way down.
5. Slide the locking piece in on top of the key head in. This might take a little lube and patience.
6&7. Should look like this.

BTW, by camera battery was running low, I didn't do these on New Year's Day in '04.

I just bought 5 of those plastic key heads last week. Now I have three spares, cause they break eventually.

Showing up a little late in the game here but I am assuming you just walk in to an MB stealerhsip parts house and order it? This is a dealer stocked part in other words?

New parts are hard to beat, but when mine came apart one day last winter I glued it together with "goop" glue that Walmart sells. It did an excellent job, was quick and easy. I have been to our Stealer, World Wide Motors, Indianapolis and find them reasonable and easy to work with. I did order a replacement master key for the W124. Got it yesterday and it works well. ( I think I lucked out on that because the car is an 86 and I didn't know, but did suspect it was the original key/ignition switch). Then I special ordered 15 trim rivets for lower moldings on the 240D. I had about 30 I got with the car, but it wasn't quite enough. Then a week after I ordered them, I found another package of 20, - more then enough. So when I went there yesterday I told them that I had found additional rivets and had enough for the job. I told them I would take them, but would be happy to leave them keep them. No problem, they would keep them. The new key does have the same cheap plastic end cap like the one Diesel Giant sells, same thing.
