Smile 300SE Motor Mounts

I need to replace the motor mounts on my 1989 300SE. Is this a "do-it-yourself" job? Is there a guide available here for me to consult? Any insight would help.

Neo, provided you are a proficient DIY'er with a decent set of tools replacing the engine mounts on a 1989 300SE is a DIY project. You will need either a floor jack or a hoist to lift the engine while replacing the engine mounts. Recommend doing one engine mount at a time. Remove that engine mount to cross member bolt and leave the other one engaged by a few threads before raising the engine. It's easier to remove the entire engine mount/engine bracket assembly, then bolt the new engine mount to the engine bracket and reinstall. Repeat the sequence for the other engine mount.

For safety sake support the car on ramps or jack stands if you don't have access to a lift.

Torque values are:
Engine Bracket to Block - 18 ft/lbs
Engine Mount to Bracket - 41 ft/lbs
Engine Mount to Cross Member - 30 ft/lbs

Do a Search for the specific sequence of this job if you're unsure how to proceed.

Replace your motor mounts and transmission mount with 1989 300 SDL mounts. They will last much longer. I just did mine, makes all the difference.

At any rate, use genuine parts in this case. I have had ZERO luck with aftermarket M103 motor mounts.

Wink 300se mounts

motor mounts very easy on this car all be it driver side a little more time consuming,i have had my 300se 15 years and have replaced mounts many times,i've used both aftermarket and mb one's,and i never get 5 years out of them,i just replaced them again only i used 560 sel motor mounts and trans mount for the first time just to try it ,lots more rubber on them and so far they work great time will tell ,i also made a heat shield to go over the existing one on passenger side much bigger and should keep more heat away from the mount.
