Suspension-W210

I do not get to drive my E420 very much as my wife won't let go of it. I do get to either perform or have performed all of the service (today it gets new front brakes). It has 91,000 miles on it now. Can I get some feedback on shocks? It still has the originals. Should I replace them, and if yes, with what? It is driven primarily by my wife on the freeway. On the other hand, we do live in North carolina, the home of some of the nicest twisty roads in the country. Anybody got thoughts, recommendations, actual experience? It does not have the sport package and I'm currently riding on Continentals, which I like.

Hey fellow North Carolinian! I live up here in the booming metropolis of High Point.
Anyway MB shocks are capable of going hundreds of thousands of miles before they need replacing. If the ride is still good, tire wear is normal, and the shocks aren't leaking, leave them be.

Should you decide to replace them anyway stay with factory shocks unless you want to firm the ride and handling up some.
HTH :)

I second Scott's comments. The factory uses Bilstein's and these are remarkably durable, well-made shocks. Like you, I'm still conditioned to think factory shocks are probably shot at <50,000 miles (thanks to the cheap ones used by American auto manufacturers); definitely NOT true for our cars, however.

If you DO have a leaking shock, replace both shocks on that end of the car and use Bilsteins.

Never heard of a reasonably driven MB wear out it's shocks at less than 100K. If it ain't broke, don't fix it...
