2005 SLK 350 Power Steering Leak.....

On a 05 SLK 350 I am trying to repair a Power Steering leak and replace the o-ring at the reservior. I have the three torx head bolts loosened that holds the reservior to the pump but the C-clip that also holds the reservior to the pump looks to be put on from the side toward the engine not the easier side toward the fenderwell. It looks like the oil fiter housing is going to have to be removed from the front of the engine to be able to access the c-clip to remove. Does anyone know if this is true or what route to go? Thanks
