EZL Rebuild?

The EZL in my 92 S320 is not functioning. There is a company advertising on e-Bay that "repairs/rebuilds" them. A little cheaper than a used one. And at least a third the price of a new one.
Anybody dealt with them or heard about the reliability of a rebuild?
They provide a warranty but along with EZL you MUST replace the coil with brand new and use new heat paste.

Suggest you get a used one with a 30 day warranty from a parts re-cycler.

That's what I was leaning towards but just wanted to know if anybody had any experience with repair/reman.

bio350, suggest you contact Beckmann Technologies and ask if they can rebuild the EZL (ignition control unit) for a 1992 S320.

When I contacted them about an EZL for a 1991 300CE their rep informed me that the internals are covered with epoxy making it impossible for them to identify the components. Therefore they are unable to rebuild that particular EZL. After an exhaustive search for a used EZL I reluctantly bought a new one from our local MB dealer for around $1,700 (wholesale price due to a favor by the dealership owner). FWIW ... a new EZL comes with the heat-conducting paste on the back.

A local indie advised me that routine maintenance of the ignition components (distributor cap, distributor rotor, spark plugs and ignition wires) in our 1991 300CE will prevent failure of the EZL.

Fred, thanks for the info. Amazingly enough the parts guy at my local dealer gave me the info for Beckmann. They told me the same thing. A new EZL would run me $2600 so I found one at the recycle for $400 with a 30 day warranty.
All is running well now!!
Just have to do a search on heating issues. I have no heat at all. A/C works fantastic!!
