87 300E Heater Fan
Well it sounds very obvious that my heater blower in my 1987 300E is on its way out. There is a very certain sound of grinding bearings. Does anyone have any pointers on how to get to the beast and replace it? Also can I buy the squirrel cages and or bearings separate from the motor. It appears that the motor is working fine.

I have a good used one, ...
The process is a pain, go in through the wiper assembly area. I believe that there is a sticky in the DIY area that is pretty good, just omit anything about disassembling the wiper assembly as it comes out in one piece with the blade still on it (unless you want the extra work). |
AFAIK, the bearings are part of the motor, which may be available separately. Getting the plastic squirrel cages off of the (by now) rusty shaft is a PITA, though.

"He" describes in the DIY the difficulty involved in the Squirrel Cage R+R from the Motor Shaft Ends. |
Thank you everyone. That was all great info....it looks like I have a weekend project in the "warmth" of Wisconsin. It can never be warm when things break.
