400E low pressure power steering hose leak
I was hunting down my NEW!!!! Power steering leak!!! fixed the top short leak about to months ago nowwwwwwwww it looks like the new leak is comming from a hose that goes from the pump to the steering box up high in the back of the pump!!! Any body got any tips on how to replace this Danm hose it looks like a RPITA!!!!!!!!!!:eek:

It's literally impossible to take off just the one front hose - the rear end of it has no access. You have to take off two hoses together. The front of the front hose is accessible and the rear of the rear hose is accessible at the gearbox. Then attach your new front hose to the old rear hose and reinstall them together. The front of the front hose is easy. The rear of the rear hose at the gearbox is not easy, but doable. You may have to remove the section of exhaust pipe in the gearbox area, which is not a real big deal - just two bolts at the bottom joint and two bolts at the top joint. It's nice to have some long wobble extensions for the two bolts at the top joint.

I refuse to remove my pump from the m119 to fix the leak. I got a bottle of lucas PS stop leak. It's guaranteed to work AND..... it actually works!!

Lucas PS SL is great stuff but it tends not to work so well on leaks in rubber, which may not be what you have.

Sp far I think it has slowed the leak down to a more manageable level for me. Before I was adding PS fluid every 3 or so days. Now it's more like every 2 weeks.

First thing I did was add the Lucas stuff no luck slowing up the leak!

Hose let go on the way to work the other day, the car is out for the count at work! Stoped to fill it three time on a 4/5 mile ride to work!

Sooooooooo, the car went on the lift at work today and one of the techs said it was the short hose next to the exhaust manifold! It took him about an hour after he got me out of his way! DONE and all I had to do was clean up and put the splash shield on!!!

Are you talking about the short rubber hose you just replaced or the high pressure line going to the gear box?

It was a hose up top next to the exhaust manifold on the left side of the motor in between two hard lines from the pump to the steering box!

Maybe a self-leveling line?

there are 3 low pressure rubber lines in your car and 1 high pressure.
You've replaced the res. line. Good. #2The back of the pump there is a bend molded one- not so hard.- about $30. I think this is the one you are talking about... remeber both sides of the hose are different sizes- put the clamps and new hose back just the way you found it. Transfer or replace the heat shielding too. #3 There is a straight one which is partially obscured by the heatshield(you have access to 1 of the 2 clamps looking straight down at.. I'd call it a frame rail but these are unibody cars). That one- pull the exhaust pipe, take the connector for the high pressure off the steering gear and then that low pressure one.. now you can remove it and replace the hose easily. Replace it with MB hose (10mm hydraulic hose), new crush washers, MB fluid. If you need a high pressure hose- it's about $100-125 from MB or you can possibly get a hydraulic line shop to rebuild it.
