car randomly shuts off while driving
ok so here is the situation, while I'm driving and getting ready to come to a stop or at a stop my car shuts off and all the dash lights come on. I thought it was the ovp st first, but that was replaced a few months ago. Any suggestions?

alternator is maybe 2 to 3 years old.....would it be going out already?
yes, the car was repainted like 2 years ago and maintained with meguires carnuba plus. Recently did the grill all black as well. |
I would look at the idle air control valve. Make sure it is working smoothly by removing it and cleaning it out. Over time they do get carboned up causing the valve to not work correctly. Also check the valve's rubber hoses to make sure they are in good shape with no cracks.

where is the idle air control valve located. what does it look like and what do I clean it with

I kind of noticed before looking at your car & was wondering. Do you have dual exhaust on that 190e?

Have you tried running some quality fuel system cleaner in it, and going for a moderately lengthy drive? Techron is like endorsed by Mercedes I was told, but there are several good ones I am told. It's a quick basic way with the constant injection system to smooth out the vibes at times.

ok so I just looked under the air filter housing and found this part connected to the back of the fuel distributor. it had gasoline leaking from it so I took it off and replaced o-rings. what is this part and should I replace it?

Ismalley,
The EHA could definitely be the problem, especially if it is noticeably leaking it should be replaced. If that doesn't solve the problem I would look at the fuel pump relay. I don't know what engine you have, but the relay on my m103 went a few years ago and caused the EXACT problem you described: random engine shutdown and all lights on dash illuminated. Good luck! |
Fuel pump relay may be the actual problem but EHA leakage compounds it.
keen to know as you progress mak |
