e320 Scraping Noise, ok to drive to shop?
We have a 2001 E320 sedan, about 110K miles. Recently the ABS light came on, the warning light said there was a BAS issue, visit workshop, and there is a pretty nasty scraping noise in both forward and reverse, seems to be coming from the front but I can't say for sure it is only on one side or the other. Our mechanic is about three or four miles away. The car seems to stop ok but am I crazy to drive it there instead of towing it? Towing is such a hassle. I've not found any discussions of these symptoms, yet. Thanks.

I wouldn't risk the drive in case there really is something wrong with it. The towing charge would be small change compared to having an accident or causing damage to the car.

Answer: towed. Major problem
The car would not move more than a foot backwards or forwards, in a narrow driveway. On inspection the front right wheel was tilted by 20 degrees and the bearings were visible inside the center whole of the wheel, ripped open. Advised by mechanic that the steering knuckle broke and the bearings froze. Replacing knuckle, bearings, rotor, brake calipers. Mechanic reported this was the second steering knuckle he'd seen broken on a MB, never saw on any other make of car though.
