What to soak the fuel distributor in to clean?
 

What do I soak the fuel distributor in to clean it without destroying the seals and o-rings?

It's an W124 1988 300TE (M103) with a no start condition....It will try to start when gas is sprayed in the intake, so spark is there. I also have fuel pressure at EHA, distributor inlet, and outlet but nothing coming out of the top of the fuel distributor to the injectors when cranking with the air plunger depressed. I don't care if its not perfect, Limp mode would be good enough. I just want it to run so that I can judge basic condition of engine and drive train before it gets parted out.

Lacquer Thinner, if you can buy it any more...
 

If that is the Bosch K-Jetronic F.I. system, I had that in a V.W. in the 80's and lacquer thinner worked well and I never had any seal issues.

In 1988 I had a VW with CIS running on 2or 3 cylinders. I forced lacquer thinner thru it for a few minutes and it still works fine today.
I figured I had nothing to loose. You say you are parting it out and just want to get it home so you don't have much to loose either. Good luck.
FYI the VW was a 79 model.

Thanks for the inputs. I thought of an almost full can of electrical contact cleaner whose label states "plastic safe" that's on the shelf. Might try that but I like the lacquer thinner. It got trailered home, its in my driveway and taking up space. I need to drive it, see if the engine (at a minimum the internals) and trans is good. Kinda makes stuff easier to sell in good conscience :).

i would try using turpentine,its a type of oil based paint thinner,the laquer thinner is ussually alcohol based and may tend to dry out the o ring seals.
