'91 500 SE s/r, e/m and c/c issues
recently threw away the keys to my pride and joy, and had to get a locksmith to remove the barrel and take it to his shop to cut new keys. In the meantime I could start the car with a flat screwdriver...
After the locksmith removed the barrel the car actually stood for 3 days before I got around to starting it. I then went for a drive and opened the sunroof - I pushed the switch upwards to flip it open - instead it retracted. I then pushed the switch forward to slide it closed and still it retracted. The second attempt to slide it closed succeeded. I then flipped it open and all was well. Remember I manually opened the sunroof from the boot previously, to unlock the car. The factory alarm activated while driving and would stop after 30 sec, only to reactivate whenever I stepped on the brakes. I arrived home and came to a stop without using the brakes. With the flat screw driver I turned off the ignition. I removed the fuse for the optical horn, hoping it would stop the damn alarm... I then realised the sunroof was still open so turned the igniton back on and tried to close it... dead - can't close the s/r. I replaced the optical horn fuse but still no s/r operation. The next day while driving to the locksmith I noticed the tempomat is now dead as well. And yesterday I realised the electric mirror isn't working either. Are these connected in some way? Is there something under the dash that might have been disconnected? But, why would the s/r malfunction and then stop working alltogether? All the fuses check out fine. This am I removed the kick panel and found the 'ignition plug' ill-fitted - so much so that i thought that was the problem... very dissapointingly, it was not the case. __________________
