1995 c280 viscious fan and pully loose W/engine noise and metal shavings

I hear a clanking type noise where the viscious fan is.There is metal silver shavings on the left side of the block facing the engine. The viscious clutch fan moves in and out and up and down i suspect this is the problem. The pully should not move what has failed or loosened to make it move. It's awefully cold here and a trip to the shop without knowing is what is wrong is my priority. How does that centrifigual clutch pully tighten up.

By replacing the bearing, look under Buy parts and find the "Fan Clutch Bearing Brkt" .

I would only drive it for a short distance when it is as bad as yours, if it falls apart it may do some damage.

Rob fan clutch bracket how hard is that and can the whole thing be removed as a unit or do I have to remove the viscious clutch to do it.

I am not familiar with your car, so I don't know how much work it will be.

On my car (300SE M103) removing the fan + clutch would be the first thing I would do.

This is exactly happening to my car now, 93 300E (M104 3.2) which should be same set up as yours. need to remove the serpentine belt by 2 bolts at tensioner ( 6 mm allen type and 13 mm ), if you have later tensioner (self adjust) just turn clockwise by wrench . Then remove the fan clutch ( I use strap wrench to hold the clutch). The bearing is now can come off ( by remove a few bolts).

I saw 2 brands for my car
1. URO part for $79
2. Febi for @ $208

Lots of people said stay away from URO part but the price is very big different. I see if I can just change the bearing not the whole bracket. If anybody has ideae, pleas feel free. (sorry, hope this is not hi jack )

I believe the clutch does need to come off so you can have easy access to the bolts to remove the bracket.

it's fairly easy to do, you don't need the special tool to lock the clutch in place, I used an allen key the first time (although since then, I did purchase the tool.)
