Brake Calliper Repair Kit W126
Greetings to all!
I have recently replaced my brake booster, master cylinder and all 4 rotors and pads. I'm about to replace all 4 brake cables on my '83 W126 (280SEL) sometime next week, and I wondered if it would be a good idea to put in place 4 sets of the brake calliper repair kit while I'm at it. They cost approx. USD$9.70 each for the front. Should I do it? What does the repair kit do? And when (or what happens to the braking) that we know it is time to get them? Thanks for any input, cheers!

The ONLY time that I have "resealed" brake calipers is when they leak. Other than that I see no reason to reseal them!!
IF you keep fresh fluid in the system you should NEVER have to touch them. UNLESS they "dump" salt on the roads all of the time!

Ahhhh.....so that's when it ought to be replaced. Thanks for the tip, M.B.Doc, I'll see to it that I always have fresh brake fluid in my system.
Have a nice day. Cheers!

I would go along with that, except for the case where I had cracked dust boots. The dust and moisture allowed to get behind the dust boot would greatly increase corrosion on the pistons and affect the seals. Also, while rebuilding my calipers, I found gelatenous brake fluid in the caliper housing behind the piston. That couldn't have been good!!

Gelatenous brake fluid?!?! Gosh, that's incredible! It must have been the same fluid since 1985. I bet you got better braking after "rebuilding" your callipers and getting rid of the gelatenous stuff.
Interesting insight, Q.
