Which car to get-replacing 1973 450sl
 

I am considering selling my 1973 450sl and purchasing either a 1995 e320 cab
or a 2002 320clk ,reasons
1. tired of manually removing top
2. Finding indy's who know old cars
3. Gas mileage
4. Age wise I am no longer willing to play mechanic although my wife and I love the old gal and all of the sweat I put into it.
5. Need the convienance

So here goes folks give me your ideas. I want the advice ,give me the good ,bad and ugly of my choices. I want to avoid a lemon and lemonade.:confused::confused:

i'd kill for a 95 e320 cab if the wiring harness was replaced and there were complete records including indications that the cylinders that allow the roof to go up were working correctly.

i used to want a 280se convertible in the early 70 genre, but those have become way too expensive.

I think you'll find that the '94 - '95 E320 is widely considered to be the pinacle of MB reliability/durablity. The wire harness is a know issue... and while it can be expensive, it's a simple fix.

The E320 would certainly be my choice.

E320 cabriolet, natch.

Been looking for a 95 E320 Cab for three years but haven't found the right one. (and I've looked at many) Then again, I'm very picky......

Obviously you know what my choice would be!

i am going to go look at a 93 cab today....pre-facelift, but 104 engine.

The cls is an m112 based car, and you will have a lot less wrenching to do (it was designed in '95 vs. the w124 designed in '85). The cab is good, but more trouble to diagnose, plus it had the wire harness gremlins. If less wrenching was the higher priority, i'd go with the '02.

I'd argue the opposite side. Stay away from the chrysler years cars and stick with the 124 chassis. The newer car is more of a "throw away car" where the 124 and cockroaches will be the last things left on earth.

Sorry, had one been there done that. I liked my W124, but I'd have to say the W210 has a lot of plusses and is definitely not less rugged. The only two things I would criticize are the headliner (not as durable) and the crazy CAN bus which is like whack-a-mole for power windows. Maybe three: the phone is a museum piece just like the W124's.
The W124 was the pinnacle of what man could do with mechanics and analog alone, and The W210 was an acknowledgment that some things really are better with electronics.
