First you need a pair of 'instrument cluster hooks'. Two 'T' handled wires with a hook at the end. Insert them at the 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock position with the hook facing up or down then rotate 90 degrees so hooks face inward. When they catch the back of the cluster begin working the cluster out about 1/8" -- first one side and then the other. If the cluster has not been removed for a long time it may appear to be held by fasteners but it is a friction fit. You can also remove the plastic panel below the steering wheel which gives you access to the back of the cluster to push on.

If you have a tilt/telescoping steering wheel move it out as far as possible. If not, you will need to remove the steering wheel to completely remove the cluster. However, if your hands are small enough you may be able to remove the bulbs by reaching behind the partially removed cluster.

For safety, disconnect the battery ground before proceeding.

Hooks are available from the dealers as well as online sites. I believe there are now two lengths. The original for early W210s and a newer longer length for newer models. But double check that. Although I think either would work on your car. Many people have made their own with varying success.

Good luck.
