How much should I pay for a 1991 300E?

Car has no rust and good interior, everything works. There are no maintenance records and the car has 270,000 miles. seller is wanting $2900. Don't know if this is a good price or not, seemed a little high to me. I drive the diesels and don't know much about the longevity of the gas models.

Thanks

car is likely a better parts car....

i wouldn't pay more than 500 if it ran well.

i figure that a 200k car with cold air and decent tires is a 1200 car... based on previous personal purchases and sells

two years ago i paid 3200 for a 1995 e320 with 122k on it.

About 1/2 the asking price..would be a fair price,

270k with immaculate service history, $2900...maybe. With none. No.

Found out it has the 2.6L engine, tires have half tread, exterior is great shape with no rust.

I think you can find better for that price. I'd recommend the 3.0L over the 2.6L. Same gas mileage, more power.

Did you question the no records on it? Like did he do all the wrenching on it, or is he marketing it for someone else?

Eh, depends how clean the interior and paint really are to me for a total dismissal.

Stuff like that here in Texas generally has horrible paint. Rust is pretty much non existent here, so if you live in the rust belt you may want to grab it.

I still would not pay $3k for it, $1200-1800 is more realistic due to lack of records.

300E are being given away these days. around $1k is normal for a running car with small issues. $3K would be a mint car with records. they are way way undervalued, but the asking on that car sounds way high compared to the market.

I was given one late last year by someone in my neighborhood... husband died, she did not want to deal with the sale, etc.

seller has not had the car long. Bought it from a grandson who inherited it from his grandfather who passed away and was the original owner. Told the seller he was approx twice the market price. Response was that the car was so pretty it would sell for the $2900. Asked him if he knew if the head hasket, timing chain or transmission work had been done but he doesn't know. seller thinks that everything that should have been done has been done since the car is in such great shape. I think I will keep looking.

$2900 is far too high. That is what I paid for my excellent condition 300E with 81k, and that was even high.

jcyuhn 02-10-2011 05:02 PM

$2900 is at least double market price for that car. Forget about it.

folks.....you are all crazy...

i just got my son a 1992 190e with the 2.6 .......71k miles $2,000.

service records from new.....over-maintained....

i could give you other examples.... keep looking....

local markets also dictate prices unless OP is willing to travel and get one from someplace where the market is mercedes heavy.

I'd have a trusty mb mech check it out, 1200-1500 tops.
