Exclamation BAS,ESP & ABS Lights

I own a 2000 C230 Komressor that for some aparent reason the BAS, ESP & ABS lights come on today and they are gone tomorow. To just come back on for the day and after some time they just go away. And there are times that the transmission just goes in to limp mode (Only once). Can some one give some Ideas to what to look for?

This is my first MB so I am learning as I go.
Thanks for the help in advance.

Mike V.

BAS, ABS & ESP lights

This morning at 10deg. All of the lights went away. I do not think it is the battery. Any Ideas? I have checked the brake light switch and all is in working order.Mike V.

Most of the time the stop lamp switch will be fully functional and still be the problem on random bas esp abs lights. I would get a diagnostic.

there are two parts to the switch, what he likely did was confirm it was good on the brake light illumination side, when most of us know it the the can side that usually fails

Mike - I had the same thing happen with my E430 the other morning, about a week ago. I had parked the car outside overnight (it's usually garaged) and it was quite cold, about -25C. That morning, I had the BAS/ESP light come on when I started the car. Everything seemed to be working fine. I drove the car to the mall, shut it off, and when I restarted the lights were gone. Hasn't come back since.

I'm guessing the extreme cold had something to do with it.

@ Zeus
It would be interesting to take a voltage reading at the battery before start-up, on a really cold morning.
As you know, battery capacity is greatly deminished at temperatures like - 25 C.

the brake light switches in these cars operate more than the rear lights .there are several computers that HAVE to know when you take your foot OFF the brake.buy a new switch [dealer only please] fit it and your troubles will go away.

Yeah, definitely. I figured it was either the cold somehow affecting a sensor somewhere, or a battery issue from the cold.

BAS,ESP & ABS Lights

Thanks for all of the info. I will replace the light switch this week end. On the other hand today the temperature started at 26 and all was well but the transmission went into limp mode. I re-started the car and it worked fine. 2 miles from work under a foot of snow the lights came on. This is ramdom. The car is in the garage at night so I suspect that the battery is not the issue. I will keep you all posted on what happens.

Thanks for the advice

Mike

Thumbs down They're bacK!!!!!

I got an original MB switch. The lights went away for 2 weeks but now they are back to stay. I think that I am going to take it to an MB shop. I know that this is going to hurt. If any one has sugestions before I get this amputation let me know.
