Missing at idle 1995 e320
I have a 1995 e320 that has a slight misfire at idle. It has become more consistent lately and you can lessen its occurrence if you put the car in park or neutral while you are sitting at a light. The car runs fine. No hiccups or other symptoms. This is only when you are sitting at a light and it is like the engine is skipping a beat every minute or so.
My first thought is coils. The coils have been replaced a couple of years ago and the infamous wiring harness was replaced about the same time. The plugs are exactly what my mechanic recommended, though I cannot remember the exact plug id. Any usual suspects I should round up? Thanks very much, Jim Lee |

Jim Lee, from my experience a bad coil pack results in an extremely rough idle and results in very sluggish engine performance. Ignition wires and spark plug connectors, particularly the ones between the coil pack and the spark plug, are more likely causes of a slight misfire.

Agreed, Fred....my idle was slightly off.....after changing plugs. I am pretty sure it was the connectors.... however, I also pinched a wire putting the cover back on.....
i didn't mind spending the 80 dollars since i suspect the wires were original and therefore 16 years old. two out of my 3 coil packs were replaced by a previous owner...

Thanks all. I have ordered wires and connectors.
Is there any way to test the coils? Like a resistance test or something like that? Thanks, Jim Lee |
