opinion on pricing '91 190e 2.6

Wanting to sell my 190e in near future for classic car I found, that I think owner is going to get together with me on. My question is about price on selling mine. It is excellent condition 89K on the clock. Engine uses no oil, & it doesn't leak any oil. Underneath is dry from front to the back. The transmission is like new all new upgrades done, safety plate installed, new seals valve body, and oil & filter in the last two months. Third end is good no leaks & I installed new brakes on the front. Paint is still excellent, and Mercedes accent on sides by professional artist. Carfax is clean. Car runs drives like it did when it was new. It has no issues. It has brand new nearly 700 dollar of Michelins on it, and 600 dollars of mercedes skins on the front. No rips or tear in interior or cracks in dash. Kelly says 2700 on it excellent, and nada says between 4800 & 6025 on it. My question is can it possibly bring in 5K or not?? Thanks!

As an afficiando of this chassis, I doubt that your car will get more than approximately $3,000 in the current market. First, there are gazillions of 190E on the market; Second, MB sedans do not particularly attract enthusiastic buyers. That might be a different story if the car had the Sportline package or was a '93 Limited Edition; Third, the competition with a W124 300E, puts the 190E at a disadvantage, and the late model W202s values are falling as well; Fourth, Fifth, the cost of the maintenance items aren't fully recoverable, since the car will need to have tires, brakes and a working transmission.

Agree?

IMHO if your car is mint w/records/receipts going back a good while you have nothing to lose by listing it at 5k and see what kind of response you get. A properly worded ad may draw someone with money who wants a 190 they wont be repairing to the tune of several thousand over a few years. Very nice examples are indeed going for $2500-3K. I picked mine up w/148,000 mi for $600, only because it had an almost perfect interior. It needed paint, a ball joint a head gasket and an A/C pump. Now it looks and drives like new but the paint alone would have cost $2500. If I had the work done I would have been over 5K for sure. I have seen rats go in my area for $2500.00.

My 2 cents

This is kind of the way I was thinking. A transmission swap at a dealer is 4K alone. It is still the r-12 and never leaks with instant ice cold air. It is a non-rust bucket. A dealer here locally that deals in just exotic cars offered me 3K cash for it a month and a half ago. At the time he knew I purchased a new car. There are people around here that get stupid over a mercedes, because for one thing there aren't that many to choose from. Just a tail muffler alone like an eberspacher is over 3 bills. I'm wanting a just standard 240 diesel crank windows, not moon roof stuff with a stick under 30K mileage.

In late November we bought a 1992 190e from the original owner for 2k

It had been over maintained and had 71k miles on it....it was running a bit rough and I replaced the o2 sensor, plugs, and motor mounts.

I think we got a deal.....but I was going to pass at 2200.

If you take your time you can find them out there.

btw..... i think the 201 is a great car.... this one had the 2.6.... this car is every bit as good as a 124...just smaller.
