Badly worn cam sprokets
Hi,
Recently open up my cam cover to inspect the valves clearence on my 1985 190e 2.3 16v,was shock to see both badly worn camshafts timing sprokets and so is the idler sproket just below these two. Can anyone tell me what's the cause? I don't think is normal wear & tear.where can i get these parts Regards Ivan |
How often has the oil and oil filter been changed?
|
Not sure about previous owner's maintanance, but i change my
oil & filter every 5000 km. I've also checked the valve clearance to be within the spec, but the engine is still very noisy, sound exactly like loose tappet. Pls enlighten me. |
ON this engine up to july 1986 production this is a "normal(common)" condition!(high mileage) MB didn't design the timing chain to get enougn lubrication until 7/86. THEY added a chain oil spray nozzle under the front cover to combat this problem. & then in 1/88 they started using a double-row timing chain!! THIS can be fixed but is somewhat costly, $400 for parts & 12 hrs of labor.

Hi,
thanks for the prompt reply,I'm very interested in the double row timing chain system you mentioned, can you please tell me more in detail, and whether the parts involved is available thru you,& maybe total costs of this conversion. Can i have the part no. of the front cover that had the oil spray nozzle? Regards Ivan |
