Just bought a w140 & have a suspension question
First off, let me tell you that I have had three Benzs before. Two W210s and a W202. I still have two of those. This is my first W140. I feel I got a good deal on it, 1995 S320 108kmi. One owner, a doctor who seemed to keep it well maintained, I think their children used it for possibly the last year or so. Ofcourse the AC is NG, and I need to open the head liner to unblock the sunroof. All said $3800.
My suspension question is in reguard to the front. (Rear is great). It feels extreemly soft and possibly a little lower than the rear of the car. Is this Normal? It rides very comfortably, but I'd like it a little firmer. Thoughts? |
I'd say the 16 year old shocks need changing anyway.
|
I agree
But the mushyness made me question if the front springs in these cars are a little on the weak side as well as needing new shocks. I thought maybe someone else had this issue with a six cly. and possibly installed V8 front springs ????

Current isssue of Mercedes Enthusiast reviews W140s and notes they are susceptable to broken front springs.

Just wondering, how does the S320 drive? My 300E feels underpowered, and even though we're talking about an M104 (200+ hp), the w140 is a much heavier car. How does it compare to the 202s and 210s?

Mine was fast when I bought her much faster now with improvements.I love leaving Mustang GTs behind.Whipped a s430,haven't found a S500 yet to try out on. |
It moves OK
I have not tried to launch it yet. I want to do fluid changes, etc.
Oldsinner111, what have you done to your S320, I'm very interested to know. My 202 has had some mods, like a ported M62 blower with a custom 3" pulley I made myself. I have found the posts relating to the W140 body's front springs. It seems like many experience cracked coil springs. I have not checked mine yet, but would bet that they are cracked, resulting in the slightly lower front end that I see. I'm thinking of springs from a S500-600 to replace the 320 springs in mine. I already see that the 420 uses the same as mine. Someone else on this forum must have done this??? |
Exhaust,intake and a chip.

you add up all the equipment your car have, to find out which spring/pad, that are correct for you car. Engine size is also in that chart. You have to do this in EPC. Follow that, and you'll be fine. At least, that will be the correct starting point, for figuring out if a different pad is needed or not. br, syljua |
