smog check and collapsed motor mounts?
Greetings,
Would collapsed motor mounts prevent me from getting a smog check? In other words, must I first fix the motor mounts before the smog establishment can check the smog check? would vibration impact the test? I am currently under extreme and very tight budget (to live on) so need to get by with the least amount of cost / no cost. Recently the car has started to vibrate when starting (most noticeable when parked - and cold). I was told a while back that the mounts had/or were collapsing.. my guess is they have fully collapsed, just as I have managed to save for the smog (yep, times are hard). So, If i take the car to get smogged (need to do an oil change too), would the mounts / shake disqualify it from from futher testing? (part of visual test?) Thanks, |
No, motor mounts have nothing to do with an emission test.
However if the engine is missing as well?? |
If you are changing the oil regularly no need to change it before for a smog check. I doubt whether the average technician could tell if the mounts were collapsed. Also motor mount vibration tends to disappear when in neutral/park (condition for testing). If you are getting a vibration in neutral when warm maybe other issues as suggested?
