5W-20 oil?

I don't know what weight oil the new MB are using, but today I saw a new Mercury Marquis, w/a V-8 engine, that called for 5W-20. Why not just use WD-40. Is it suddenly "how low can you go" with oil weights. Where in the hell do buy 5W-20.

I remember seeing that on the Ford Taurus too. And now that you mention it, I do not think that I have ever seen 5-20 sold anywhere. Maybe it is a dealer-only item, and is another way for Ford to make money by having their dealerships be the only supplier for the 1 recommended oil for the car.

By the way, does anyone know where I can find Mobil 1 0-40. I am currently in Daytona Beach and see 0-30 everywhere, but cannot find 0-40.

The new 5w20 oil is made for certain new Ford models. Ford claims it produces less CO2 emissions and helps fuel economy. All 2001 Fords except the 4.0L Explorer, 3.9L LS , and new discontinued 3.3L Villager where shipped with the new oil. The plan is to have all new Fords running on it, which they probably have achieved by now. I just hope this doesn't encourage other manufactures to develop their own oil because we'd be paying an arm and a leg for MB oil.
