W126 ignition tumbler tool
Hi folks, I want to replace the ignition tumbler on my '90 W126 and I am looking for a source for the correct turning tool. Apparantly, the late('90 and '91) W126 takes a different turning tool and pins than the early models. I have looked online and can't find anything except the generic W123/W126 tool that I suspect won't large enough in diameter.
Any leads would be much appreciated, Ed. |
Only tool I've ever used is a bent coathanger or paperclip. They did change the design a bit, but I imagine it would be the same as my 1990 300E...generally the same procedure as any of the writeups

Thanks for the reply, I guess I don't have much to lose by trying without the tool first. It's just that I can't unscrew the black cover off the assembly, is there some trick that I'm missing?

There is a tool to remove the bezel off the W126 - I have done it with a pair of 90 D Needle Nose Pliers - but its not easy.

I've got the one i used on my '89. If you'd like to try it send me a PM or e-mail. Don't want to sell it as i would like to own another W126 someday, but it's just sitting in my garage right now if it would help you out.

Removed it with a pair of long handled needle nose pliers and a paperclip on my 84 126SD last night. Not difficult.
