W201 Idle problem
So I just changed my tranny fluid, drained the torque converter as well and put in 6L as stated in the owners manual and now i have a rough idle. when im stopped and take off the car vibrates/sputters. Any suggestions. I just replaced the spark plugs less than 2 mos ago fyi and the problem didn't exist before the transmission fluid change.

Is that 6L figure for the torque converter AND transmission?
You need to work the shifter between reverse and drive, waiting a few seconds between changes. Do this 10 or 15 times. Then check the fluid level and fill if necessary. |
yes, I did the shift between gears and rechecked the level. it is perfect, or near prefect. would that cause rough idle?

I can't think of many reasons how changing the transmission fluid would affect idle...
But I think the torque converter can affect your idle if it is not working properly, locking up or something. But I am not versed on the internals of how they actually work. The new fluid might be too thin compared to the old stuff that was in there...if your TC is really worn. IDK. |
Did the idle rpm's change? Check the vacuum connection at the Vacuum Modulator.

vacuum connection is fine, checked it as I was finishing up. wtf, my car has a problem, I fix it, but then create a bigger problem. my tranny fluid was dark brown and I have never drained the torque converter and now I do and my car now stutters when it gets warm. before that it was idling the best it ever has....it would feel like I was in park or neutral now it feels like its gonna die when I stop and the acceleration is awful from a standing stop.

Problem solved! Spark plug wire. Odd, wires never gave me a problem before and right after I change the tranny fluid, BOOM!, problem pops up....this was like immediately after pour in the fluid and shifting through the gears to get the fluid going. Made me think I effed something up again. Oh well. Thanks everyone for your replies.
