fuse type 89 300E
Could someone please educate me as to the type of fuses I should be using in my 89 300E? Apparently the European type fuse (pointed, ceramic looking) are no longer available in the states. This according to my friendly Napa auto parts guy. He directed me to "Buss" fuses European type, pointed ends, typical glass tube. Will these do the job or do I need to search for the original style. Also the existing fuses have a metal strip running through the center and some look more hourglass shape than others and one looks burnt on the ends. I feel like this may be a sign of trouble to come. Should be doing some fuse replacement or at the least have the proper fuses on hand.

If in a fuse hurry
Greetings,
Your NAPA guy is wrong. You can still get the ceramic fuses from Auto Zone as well as your local O'Reilly Automotive if you have either of these parts places in your locale. If time isn't a problem, like was mentioned, Fastlane as well as Mercedes Shop both carries them OEM. Charles |
You should still be able to obtain the ceramic type from most auto parts stores.
My 73 Bug uses the ceramic fuses as well, and I have no problem procuring them.:) If your local auto parts stores don't have them, check the import car shops...they should keep an ample supply... The ceramic fuses use either a copper or zinc metal, and over time they both can discolor...replace those that look suspect. It they indeed look "burnt" make sure the fuse receptacle has the proper amperage fuse connected. Otherwise, it is probably cosmetic, and they do an excellent job of "blowing" anytime I screw something up electrically... BTW, the BUSS type fuses I see are primarily used as "in-line" fuses and not part of a terminal block... |
Thank you all for your help, turns out we have a hole in the wall import shop here in Coeurd'Alene that can fill my order and then some. Just the type of people I like to work with. Amazing what I can accomplish when I use my head.......and the yellow pages!
