e430 abs light on
Looking for help! My mom's 99 e430 abs light is on. The brake light switch was replaced when it first came on. Now it's back again. Anyone out there experienced this problem. The dealer is saying the control module needs to be replaced. I need a second opinion. The module is priced at $2800 just for the part. I really don't think the module is bad because the car is stopping and driving fine. Also, the tail lamp error comes up as well. If you have experienced this or have any suggestions let me know.

My advice, if it turns out to be the control unit, you don't need to buy a new control unit at $2800. Buy it from a used wrecking yard, that pulls parts for you. You will pay ~$100-150 most likely. Electronic control modules are not a "wear" item, therefore used is just as good as new.

Hmmmmm.........Was the battery tested? Sounds stupid, but I've seen it happen many times.

I will check the battery out. I think it was replaced a few years back but not sure when the last time it was tested. Any other suggestions

I'm not really sure about the '99 E430, but assuming that the technology is about the same-----I have a 1988 300 SE that did the same thing. The fix was as simple as cleaning the sensors at the rotor hub and the corresponding gaps cast into the hub. The sensors "read" those gaps and if they are full of mud or whatever, they don't read correctly and thus the "LIGHT" on the dash. It was a VERY cheap fix. That's not gospel or nuthin'--jist my experience........

Have you checked the brake light bulbs in both taillights?
Sometimes the ABS light will come on as previous posters have said, when dirt or grit fouls the sensors. My ABS light usually comes on after I get stuck in snow. But it always went away by itself. Check the bulbs, check the sensors, then throw in a used control unit.
