Question Oil consumption

For 2.5 years I had the car almost no oil needed to be added between changes. 5 month ago I had the head gusket replaced. The tech also talked me into valve job. Car had 96k at that time.
As far as I see, car uses a quart of oil every 1,000 miles or so since gusket replacement and the valve job. I run Castrol synthetic blend in it and the engine is 104, 24 valve.
What might be cousing this?

Nope... no leaks. I used the blend before the repairs as well

Oil consumption

Dmitry;
I've never seen a 104 eng. that needed valve guides @97k miles.
Was this engine overheated? This could explain oil use if the rings got hot enough to go soft.

It probably did not need the valve job yet, but since the head had to be taken out anyways, I figured might as well do it.
Car was runing hot past summer, but T always droped after aux fan engajment. So never went up past 105C. One way or the other, car did not "eat up" oil before. No smoke out of tail pipe eather. It just desapears.
