W126 87 560SEC (Euro) engine miss)
I've been slowly trying to get this car back to it's former glory but recently it developed a pretty horrible miss (like it's running on 7 or fewer cylinders).
I'm not sure if the issue is fuel or ignition related. Today I pulled the injectors out to test the spray pattern using carb cleaner and a straw attachment. Some had bad spray patterns so I bought 5 new ones (worldpac only had 5 in stock so I took what I could get) and used the best of the ones that I had left. After putting the car back together, it ran a little better but still had a miss. The miss is a little unusual in the sense that at idle, it would sometimes idle fine for a few seconds and the miss. Other times it will idle well until you put the car into gear and then it would miss. In gear, as your accelerating, there is a consistent miss. I cracked the lines to the fuel distributor one by one and listened to the engine to change tone which it did so I no longer think that it's a bad injector (although I will replace the other 3 injectors on Tuesday). Two of the lines when opened revealed a lot of dirty, rusty fuel. With that in mind, it could be the fuel distributor that's acting up but as the engine tone changed when I cracked the lines and it developed a miss, I think the FD itself is fine. I have a spare EHA from a US spec car. The plugs, coil, rotor and plug wires have all been recently replaced, so has the crank position sensor. What else can I check?

if you used bosch cap, rotor and plugs-not platinum, that should be ok. if you used bosch wires, i've had 4 cars over the years with new bosch wires that had a miss. brand new out of the box, number 4 cyl on 2 cars, i forget 1 car and the coil wire on the 4th. replace the 3 injectors and report back. i alway do 8 because the results are great. i hope you replaced all the seals on the injectors and holders. good luck, chuck.

I replaced the seals but not the cups. I know I should have done that but I ran out of time. That should have shown up with the carb cleaner right?
I'm going to stop by the hardware store on the way home and get some propane for my propane torch, it may show up a vacuum leak better then the carb cleaner.

honestly, i always do cups and seals but i believe the cups SHOULD be ok. the reason, the labor is the same and the parts are cheap. propane is a good idea. you could have an intake seak leak and all the injectors in the world won't fix that. but, i have a smoke machine. use a long hose and go slow. found a couple of misses in bmws around the rear engine seal with propane. good luck, chuck.

Interesting turn, I got some propane but could not detect the leak. At the same time , the the miss went away at idle but I still have a very slight stumble when I rev.
I get the other 3 injectors on Tuesday. We'll see what happens.
