16 pin or 38 pin diagnostic counter questions

I apologize for the following newbie questions but I didn't get any response in the Benzworld so maybe I'll have better luck over here!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry for the newbie questions but I'm a little confused based on what I've read so far. I understand the functionality of the 16 & 38 pin connectors and that you have to use a scanner with Yellow, Black and Red test leads. Red = power, Black - GND and Yellow plugs into the appropriate pin to test a specific system.

On the 16 pin socket with the built in LED and a push button - that is a source of my confusion. When you read the blink codes from this LED, what system(s) are the codes for? Is it reading the DTC from one system or for ALL systems? The tables I see are: CFI, MAS, SRS & A/C.

I've downloaded the DTC codes, procedure on how to read and reset. Right now, I have two codes: 15 & 16. The trouble is, I'm not sure which table I should be looking at. By process of elimination, I think the two codes I have are for the CFI system. Please correct me if I'm wrong!

CFI (cont fuel injection system) Table
Code 18 - Current to idle control valve is illogical.
Code 16 - EGR switchover valve, open or short circuit.

Thank you kindly.
