Help with 560SEL gas leak?
Hey guys... anyone have any suggestions on tracing a pretty big gas leak? When the motor is first started you can definately smell the gas, heavy. This has to be a major leak, because I'm only getting about two miles to the gallon. Hoses to check, connections to check, whatever, I'm open to all suggestions. If you could tell me where things are, etc, I can follow instructions, at least after my second cup of coffee.....
Thanks JD |

In my experience you can see the leak. If it's not visible in the engine area, check by the pumps and the accumulator. These are on the right side below the car around the trunk area. Then follow the fuel lines.

I don't think that I'd be driving it if you heavily smell gas and are getting 2mpg.
Don't want this to be the scene of you and your car!!!

fuel leak
when you start the car, look under the right side ie under the fuel tank where the fuel pump is....if it is leaking you will see it...otherwise you will hear the fuel pump running
if you are losing gas like you say you are it should be pretty easy...i just did this with my better half's car....1988 560sel lyle in west tx |
