opinions on ac please

so the other day took the baby(1987 420sel) to my buddy honest mike. started the recharge with r12 (freeze12) and found a leak. tightened all up and now am sort of at a quandry....

my local napa has the r12 and they always get it. would it be best to keep the r12 and skip the whole 134 process??

opinions please.

stay with r12. this forum-and others-is full of complaints of poor conversions. r12 was SUPPOSED to go away and that's why 134 is put into r12 systems. as long as it's available and not 100usd/lb, stck with it. good luck, chuck.

Freeze 12 is not R12. It is a blend of R134a and other gunk that allows it to work (arguably poorly) in an R12 AC system. Unfortunately a lot of places won't touch the stuff to flush since it also gunks up their recovery machines and contaminates any recycled refrigerant they have. Why didn't you just get plain old R12 in the first place if you're considering buying it now :confused:. Get the EPA license (or take it to a shop) and stick with true R12.

+1
I've seen a lot of people get screwed with this stuff. It really should be pulled off the market or have the name changed. It never works well in an R12 system.

The EPA site talks about these refrigerants... typically blends..which are NAMED to be MISLEADING....
this is one of the worst ones....
stay with actual R12...
