AC Bubbles
 

New Dryer, and Exp Valve. Cleaned out system, pulled vacum for approx 16hrs. Put 24OZ (2 cans) of freeze12 in, and still showing bubbles from the dryer view glass. The AC is blowing upper 60's low 70's.

anyone know what the bubbles indicate and how many cans of freon the system takes?

Bubbles don't mean anything except that there is some freon and the compressor is working. Read the ac post at the top of the diesel forum.

...And if you're not using pure R-12, bubbles mean even less. The sightglass is, by design, positioned in a location where a system filled with R-12 should have nothing but liquid flowing, if you use a different refrigerent, it will condense differently, meaning you may end up with bubbles at that same location even when full.

There isn't a proper amount of Freeze 12 to add, as the correct amount in an R-12 system is 0.

So, how many cans of R12 should this system take?

Why are you using the term ' R12' and Freeze 12 like they are the same thing ?
Freeze 12 is part 134a...
Do you really know which you have ?
I suspect you are about to mess up your system and it cost you a lot of money... because you are not listening...

I do understand what Freeze12 is, its basic composition, what I have (R12 and Freeze12), and the difference between R12. I use both in my cars, (not mixed) with excellent results for the last couple of years.....so far...

Sorry, maybe I was not clear, how many cans of R12 does it take to fill a 1990 300TE?

I will eventually put R12 back into this car, but in the meantime, if I know how many cans of R12 are required, that will give me a pretty good idea as to how much freeze12 to use. At this time, I am not asking for any additional information or opinions, just an answer to a very simple question.

You should not put Freeze 12 in an R12 system unless you flush and change the oil in the system, change the O-rings to R134 type and connectors.

Did you add oil to the system after changing the dryer and expansion valve?

If you want to keep the system as is, use Envirosafe or some other hydrocarbon, they mix well with mineral oil in the R12 systems.

Pesuazo: Yes, I took the system apart, flushed each component,replaced the dryer and e-valve, Changed measured and added oil, and pulled a vacuum over night. Did you not read my first post?

And yes, I did spend time searching, as I always do before I ask a question. If the answer was posted before, I just missed it, and I apologize for any inconvenience that has caused to those that responded.

Another user pm'd me my answer last night, 38.8 OZ, that's really all I needed, I know what my problem is now. Thank you Mr Dalton.

You act insulted when we question your basic knowledge...
but here again you have used the word ' FREON' after claiming to have added Freeze 12...which is not FREON...

AND you did not use pressure to test for a leak before installing your refrigerant the first time... that 16 hours of vacuum are only good once a pressure test has determined that you are sealed up..

So PRESTO... you wind up " Low on 'Freon' ".... from a leak....after doing all that work in the first place....

But this is a forum and others will learn from your mistakes...
So this " all I wanted was an answer to thus and so' does not mean that is all that will get posted to the thread....
