W124 Transmission Fluid which one ?

Hi i have a 1995 w124 e220 estate and i need to buy a good automatic transmission fluid as the current box has broken which i am replacing with a second hand one with 52000 miles on it,
The thing is there is so many recommendations out there i just dont know where to start.
I need 6ltr so i want to try and avoid 1ltr bottles due to cost and also some people and sites say dexron 2 or 3 and others say not which has gone straight over my head as i just dont have a clue.
Please help as i have spent so much on repairs in the six months i`ve had the car and want to try and get it right the first time to try and avoid spending out in the future because i made the wrong decision.

Just saw my Mercedes Transmission Specialist two days ago to seal a leak I had and he said just to use any ATFIII or higher as they are all good enough now for these w124 transmissions. He was using a Merc/Dexron IV fluid that came in a gold 2 gallon container (Valvoline I think). Just do a search for your car and approved Trans Fluid. You'll get a lot of options.

if you are going to drain the torque convertor and the pan, you need 7 qts of dexron. good luck, chuck.

The type of fluid is called "DexronIII/Mercon", any brand should be fine, any name brand is what I would recommend.

I decided to go with Redline synthetic in hopes of prolonging transmission life. It shifts better. More positive and quick shifting. Feels better. My $.02.
