For a 1000 bucks, it must be a helluva good alarm!

The W126 factory alarm is pretty good, though it has no shock/motion sensor & remote lock/unlock. A popular aftermarket product to add these features, that piggy-backs on the existing factory alarm, is the Ungo Box -- now owned by Clarion Electronics.

Taking it to an MB-competent installer is the key. I ripped my Ungo alarm out after several things had shorted/rusted from a bad install by the PO's install shop. Insist upfront on insured and warranted work -- I have dealt with a radio installer that would not replace some panels they broke. Best of luck, Andrew Seidel.

I had a mid-level Viper installed for a little over $300 and it works in quite well with the exisiting factory alarm.

I used to carry a S&W .357 Magnum with me, but the fact that I didn't and still don't have a carry permit was a problem. Plus living in a low-crime city, there is no need anymore.

Hey w126 - you're lucky. Up here in Canada with a city of 600,000 people there were over 10,000 car thefts last year. Things are getting so bad - some #@#$$ even stole the VW plastic emblem off the front of my wife's 94VW! I dare not drive my Mercedes where I have to park it unattended. My friend has a ML320 SUV - his wife took it grocery shopping - in 1/2 hour in broad daylight - they took the mercedes emblem off the hood, the star from the front grill and the star from the back door. The replacement cost of those parts don't bother him -only they scratched the paint mercilessly removing them. In a busy parking lot 50 feet from the store's entrance - nobody saw anything! Believe me -Truth is stranger than fiction.

thanks

Hey, thanks for the feedback, i will look in to the undgo and viper. That sucks about canada, but we've had theft here too. I work at a toy store and witnessed someone steal a new escalade and get away with it before the cops got there. Also my friend put $7,000 in to his mustang between a $2,000 sub all locked up in a box, PS2 in the car, gps, alpine dvd player with lcd, all of that jazz. He had it all professionally installed and bolted down, he left it outside his house, woke up in the morning, everything was stolen, everything. They unbolted everything, took the sub, ps2, even his old head unit. @$$holes. Because i leave my laptop in my car alot of the times, and just because i plain love my car, i would like an alarm. So if anyone else has any good experience with particular ones, let me know! Thanks again!
