manufacture date
I noticed the some of the sl500's on ebay show a badge manufacture date of 1999 but there calling them 2000. My sl date is 8/95 and it is titled a 95. Anybody know how there supposed to be titled? Thanks, George

As far as I know all cars manufactured around September or October of a given year, are designated manufactured in the following year. Ergo 9/95 would mean a 1996 car. Why, I dont know.

The only true way to see the actaul yeat that the car is titled is by the VIN number. THE 10th digit will tell you what year MODEL the car is.
The earliest model change that MB ever had was on the 1995 E300D, some of these cars were made in OCT 1993!! But the title still said 1995!! Another early release was the SLK in JAN 1997 as a 1998 model. The 10th digit of the VIN on a 1995 car is the letter "S'. |
George, your car could very well be one of the last '95s built. What makes this model year stuff all the more confusing is Germany's "new car season". Traditionally here in the states, cars made in the Fall are labled as next year's model. In Germany, or maybe Europe, the new cars come out in the summer. For example, the W126 chassis was imported here starting in the Fall of '80, as 1981 models. Yet, they were being built and sold in Europe as early as late 1979, as 1980 models. The best thing to do is call MB and request a copy of the invoice and that will answer your question.

Thanks for the info and replys. George
