Question Door Lock (This is a tough one)

I am looking for part# 126-720-0135 left door lock and need your help.

My 86 300SDL serial#276319 is in need of a left door lock with the above part#. I have found so far this # is no longer available by dealer, or Germany, it has been discontinued and is no longer made. This part # fits a number of models: 420SEL-560SEL-300SD-300SEL 300SDL with early serial numbers below A452296. My independent mechanic. tells me the new part number 126-720-1135 most likely will not fit due to the serial number break.

If you know of one or someone who has one of 126-720-0135 PLEASE let me know.

In addition I cannot find anyone who can tell me what is the difference between the two part# 126-720-0135 & 126-720-1135. Do you know?
Thank you,
Ron

Smile Door Lock (This is a tough one)

Hi there,
This is just a Door Lock. I believe you may have submitted a reply to another question.
There is really no picture to show and if there was, both would look the same.
Just open your driver side door and look at the locking mechanism on the door.

The part number I need to fit this low serial number is 126-720-0135 fitting an old serial number, lower than A452298 the lock will fit models: 300SEL - 300SDL - 420SDL - 560SEL - 300SD with serial numbers lower than A452298. Mine is a 1985 300SDL chassis#276319

As stated, there appears to be none in dealer stock across the US or even in Germany.
It is a door lock part. Please rear my original message again
Thanks,Ron

There are a few threads that talk about rebuilding a lock. You may be forced to use your old part and adapt the new part to make it work.

EPC also has a "superseded" list that can probably tell you if the parts are compatible, possibly better than the indy doing so.

I do not think it is a tough one.

Do not understand your problem. You cannot lock/unlock from the outside with key, from the inside by pressing down the plunger, door would not lock no matter what?

As far as I know, all the door mechanism is pretty similar. Just pull a complete assembly from a SEL gas car from a JY. You can key the lock to match or swap the lock but it is a bit fiddly. I would just install keyless remote entry and forget about the key. It is easily done.

Pull one from a wrecking yard. I believe all of those W126 door locks were pretty much the same, so there are lots and lots of them around.

On a related note, I'd be very surprised if MB really discontinued that part. Perhaps they superseded it with a newer part number, but they usually don't discontinue a part completely like that. You can probably still get a door lock for a gullwing from the '50's so I'm sure you can get one for your car.

Get a free account at epc.startekinfo.com and look up the part number. See if it says "replaced by" and another part number.

They probably just discontinued the earlier model and superseded the part number of the late model part because it will fit your car. They don't want to carry 2 (or more) parts with limited sales for an older car, when one newer part will fit all of those cars.

door latch issues?

Just to "muddy up the waters" here a bit, I'm wondering if you are experience the typical age old problem of your door not really latching properly, completely shut, when you close it, but otherwise it seems to function well in all other respects. In other words you have to shut it really hard, or repeatedly to get it to fully latch? If that's the case, I believe that your problem is not in the door latch mechanism at all, that is to say, not the complex mechanism installed in the door (which is a total pia to remove) but rather it is the striker mounted in the door jamb. If it seems I have identified the issue you are dealing with, I suggest that you examine the striker carefully and compare it's appearance to others on your car, most preferably the other ones that close proplerly. I'm willing to bet that you'll find that the rubber lip on the lower edge is either well worn or even completely missing. If this is the case, that is the most likely culprit and is available still from MB at a "New and improved" price! They were once very reasonably priced but now sell here at Park Place MB for a bit over $100 and that's with a MBCA discount! These can be found fairly easily in local PnP's but I would recommend procurring the ones from the rear doors as there is usually much less wear and tear on the rear doors. Take along an impact driver with a, I believe, 5mm alan type socket to fit the impact driver. And a good size hammer! Be very careful to make sure the bolt socket is clean and that the alan bit seats securely, you do not want these to "round out". I do hope that this will help solve your dilema. I believe it will. Just some more trivia, the key lock portion is in the door handle and many good lock shops can handle re-keying replacement door handles

Try here:

Looks promising.
