W126 M103 motor mounts...
Just swapped in a set of Meyle and the passenger side has already collapsed after about a week.
Is it possible to use the V8 mounts on this car? What about trans mount? |
Wouldn't your parts guy warrantee that part for you?
|
I am sure... but for the $20 the thing cost, I have to mail it back and will probably end up losing money on the deal as I will have to have the new one shipped to me again.
In the archives here someone mentioned using '90-91 350SD/L mounts. Has anyone tried this recently? Granted the cost is more, the extra weight of the 603 Diesel should warrant heavier duty mounts (I hope). I need to also replace my trans mount... thoughts on just using the M103 version? The M116/7 mount differs from the 603 which differs from the M103. Great. |
You might also consider looking into the M103 4Matic motor mounts from the W124. The are significantly stronger than the regular M103 mounts.
|
W124 ones do not work sadly.
Any input on the gasser or 350SDL mounts? |
just put a set of Meyle motor mounts in my 560SEL yesterday.. i thought Meyle parts were decent parts. am i wrong?

I usually have good luck with their parts also. The driver mount is still like new on the car, the passenger went flat within a few days. |
Sounds like a defective part. Unless your trans mount is so shot that the engine is still moving around.
|
Obviously. But as said, it will cost me more to return it than it is worth.
SO, I am going dealer this time. But will 350SDL ones work or not? They have the proper bolt hole locations. |
That is actually a common problem. The heat from the exhaust kills the mount in no time flat. Usually aftermarket mounts die quickest, but even OE will fail similarly. I'd recommend to fashion a heat shield for whichever mount you install.
|
It has the heatshield in place.....
|
That dinky thing doesn't get the job done, think bigger.

I Replaced the mounts on my 1988 300sel last June 2016 The passenger side (right side) motor mount is completely collapsed and even though the mounts have a lifetime with FCP I have decided not to use Meyle again. The other motor mount option is made by FEBI. I will get a quote from the Classic Center tomorrow and probably pay up the money to get quality. I didn't even put 10k miles on the mounts. |
xaliscomex, best to buy genuine MB engine mounts, unless you prefer to replace the engine mounts on a routine basis.

OE seemed to be the only thing that lasts half decent on this car. OE were just put on around '05 when I acquired this thing in '07. I put OE on the car and they lasted a decent time. July '11 was around 276k on the car. Been flat for about 12-18 months. So it appears five years is all you will receive from motor mounts on a W126.024/5
Actually doing this again here, at 316k. Found one for $60.50 and one for $124.63, both new for OEM. I added an exhaust hanger to shim the bottom of the driver's side, seemed to help quite a bit. The mounts, when compressed, are about 0.5" too short from what I can tell and the downpipes will rest on that caster rod brace or the idler arm. Mine is on the idler arm as I dimpled the caster rod brace. Head is coming off to replace head gasket again, maybe I will ceramic coat the manifolds while off and wrap the downpipes to contain heat. At least my '90 model does not have precats just resonators. Meyle is garbage, I would not install anything from them on anything I own. They are in the same league as Uro. Febi is very close, but they are a repacker...so who knows what you will receive. |
