Major Trans Leak 722.632 Trans 5.5 Kompressor.

OK, have done many transmission R&Rs in the past on other cars.

I noticed an error code P0715 input shaft speed sensor and then trans fluid all over the floor which obviously was triggering the error code as low trans fluid=no turny turny. :D

Now it does not leak or very little when the fluid is on the low side of the dipstick. Once that final 1/2-1 quart is put in though. LOOK OUT! Flood city.

I checked it closely and the the leak certainly seems to be coming from the front pump seal (where converter slides into the pump) OR front pump O-ring which I'm hoping it is not.

So question is. Front pump seal=easy. Front pump o-ring, do I require any special tools to change this one out? If it is easy to get to I would rather just change out everything I can while the trans is pulled away from the motor. I plan on replacing the electrical connector while down there even though it appears dry. I have a low profile trans jack which I have used on plenty of other trans jobs, have most tools once would need in a garage and plenty of fluid.

As most cars have their own unique idiosyncrasies, curious if I need to lookout for anything with this car? Remove exhaust, drain fluid, unplug electrics, disconnect shifter, remove driveshaft, remove flexplate bolts (6-8 I imagine), jack support, bell housing bolts, roll her back. Anything else while I'm in there? Rear main perhaps?

Tips, thoughts?

Thanks!

But just in case someone runs into this, the front pump bushing is wore, allowing a bit of play, allowing the leak.

So, I'm trying to source a new bushing, if not then a new pump in trans is in order.

Rear main seal is easy. Mark spots, remove bolts, remove bolts holding cover, TILT DOWN to break the seal, not side to side as this can warp or break cover. Mercedes recommends replacing the cover-it's cheap.

Seal it up. Rear main completed.

Now just need to find that bushing.

'Allo ?

We've No Idea which Transmission (Or Mercedes) you're Inquiring About/Working On.

[Since this post is in the "Tech" section you may own a Gasser/Petrol/Benzine
Mercedes .]

You'll probably notice that in other poster's signature line they list:
1.Mercedes they('ve) own(ed).
2.All other sorts of Conveyances.Wheeled and "Other",Automotive,Aeromotive and Marine.
3.Ex (and Current) Significant Others. (Some Pictures of which Scare the Wildlife.)
4.Alleged Poetry and Political Bombast.
5.Inscrutable Instructions in Foreign Tongues on how to scr*w yourself.

"Rear Main" ?
Unless it's "Brand New",If I've the Opportunity to R+R, it I will.

On some it's sometimes as simple as a pan gasket that's been over-torqued.

On some perhaps, but not mine. The front pump bushing is worn and perhaps took the front pump along with it. I ordered a bushing and hopefully that will fix it, if not, I also have on order a front pump which will require a little teardown of the trans.

The rear main was easy. And a small header leak was found and fixed while at it. Wait, I posted most of this already. :) Well, we shall see how the trans works out once the parts arrive.
