need some assistance with transmission shifter
i am going to edit post for fear of those that might think i would abuse my car....
the patient: 1987 420sel the problem: more often then not if i slide the gear selector into park, it will not fully engage, and the car will try to inch forward....the car will start in park and neutral so i am thinking there is excessive play my mechanic buddy pulled out one cracked rubber bushing but i am still missing something as today i am having the same symptoms....ideas please on curing the excessive play with the gear selector lyle |

[That WAS your ORIGINAL problem(s).There are two Bushings.] And, "Slamming" any part of a Mercedes is a Guarantee of EVEN MORE Expensive Repair(s) in the Near Future,if not immediately. |
lyle, sounds like you need to replace the worn shifter bushings which are accessible from under the car. Unless you are an experienced DIY'er you will probably need to have an indie replace them. The bushings are inexpensive, not sure about the labor. You may want to call a few indies for estimates. Best to replace the bushings as soon as possible.
