95 w124 Sunroof issues

Hi all, i've got a 95 e320 with a sunroof problem. The switch is illuminated, and the sunroof moves forward and backward. But it does not move upward at all.

Any thoughts?

I'm hoping that might just be an issue with the switch, or perhaps it will go away if I reseat the fuse.

Anyone knows which fuse this upward movement belongs to?

On a side note, my car's central lock and the radio's speaker, along with the interior lighting and seatbelt warning light all goes haywire sometimes if I turn on or off the radio while driving.

The isses goes away when I reseat the fuse#C. I do hear a slight clicking sound when the fuse is removed and reseated.

Like to know if that's something I need to worry about as well.

Much obliged!

Theo

I don't think that there is a different fuse for each sunroof function on those. Failure to pop up, while still being able to slide is usually broken arms on the mechanism, however if pulling the fuse temporarily re-activates the sunroof's pop up function, then the mechanism is probably sound.
It is odd that your central locking and speakers go haywire at the same time as the sunroof (Do the door locks actually lock / unlock when you have the problem?). The sunroof motor has a relay and gear set with a microswitch on it to give you the opening functions and a misaligned gear / microswitch sent our 124's sunroof into clanking motor mode with the occasional self opening / closing / dancing about. The whole 'comfort' system, central locking and total closure system is, I think, controlled by an ECU, really a bundle of relays, located under the rear seat squab. I suppose that you could have a loose wire somewhere as well, but the motor gear alignment and the ECU would be my first port of call.

Hi S124300,

thanks for your reply. Actually the sunroof issues has nothing to do with the occasional central lock failure. I was just pointing out that my central lock fails sometimes and it seems to coincide with the turning one of the radio while the car is in motion.

But back to the sunroof. If it's a broken arm issue, i'd like to know how to look into that and perhaps fixing it myself.

Thanks for your info!

Maruzo - I'm having the same issue! Same car too. The tilt went out on me about a year ago.

When you open/close the sunroof, does it seem like it gets hung up on you and takes FOREVER to close? Thats the other issue that I am having with my sunroof.

If you have learned anything on this, please send me an e-mail. I would really like to fix this myself also.

You should check the rubber weatherstripping, my cars's sunroof works nice - lifts and slides but sometimes jams and used to act up - so I decided to clean and lube the tracks. At that time I discovered that the weatherstripping was hanging the sunroof - so uptil the time I get a new one - the sunroof is remaining closed.
