1985 300D replacement of front tranny seal
Now that the 240D is running I am considering replacing the front tranny seal on my 300D because of leakage. Is it easier to remove the engine or the tranny to do it? I have never gone into one just to replace the front tranny seal. There is nothing wrong with the engine so I really don't have any good reason to pull it but if it make the job easier then that is the way I will go.
thanks

Front seal leak.
Jim ....much easier and faster to pull the trans. An experienced hand with access to a hoist could do the whole job in an hour to 2. Make sure the converter hub is not worn or badly scratched where it rides the bushing in the pump. If it is then the converter will require replacement and the pump will have to be removed to replace the bushing as well as the seal.
