How many wear indicators?
I'm afraid I didn't order enough brake pad wear indicators. Is there 2 or 4 needed for a change out. I need to do a change this weekend, so will need to stop of at the dealer on the way home from work if I need 4.
Sorry for the silly question. Steve |
On the W126 chassis 300SE there are 4. On the 190E there are only 2.

Thanks for the quick help. I'm going to be doing both cars this weekend, so info on both was really helpful. I'll be changing disks on both as well. One additional question, on R&R of the disks, the hubs need to be removed. I picked up a can of Valvoline synthetic grease to repack the bearings, would this be an acceptable lube or since I need to get 2 additional 126 sensors should I just pick up OEM lube while I'm at the dealer anyway.
Thanks again Steve |
If you repack the wheel bearings, you'll need inner grease seals too. There's really no way to get the inner bearings out without prying the seal out.
IMO, it's okay to switch brands of grease as long as you don't mix them. In other words, get everything really clean. Have fun! |
. . . . It might be worth buying a pocketful of those wear indicators, they are real cheap and real easy to bust if you are not too careful. Often, the pad makers will throw a couple in the box for you FOC !
