W124 UK drivers side mirror

My '88 TE, like all W124's, has the full size driver's (left) mirror and square passenger (right) mirror. The UK models are reversed. I was wondering if anyone in the states has ever swapped the square passenger mirror with a right side drivers mirror from the UK model, and if so, how easy or difficult is the swap?

Thanks.
J.

Actually, it may be more useable if you installed the RHD passenger mirror to replace your driver's side.

Thanks for the post MTI, 2Phast is 2Awesome :-)
I guess I can scratch that off the to do list. I prefer the look of 2 long mirrors more than the 2 short ones but I really like having full visibilty from my mirrors, so I'll keep them stock.
Thanks again.

The RHD driver mirror won't be angled correctly to be viewed from the LHD driver seat. I don't know if there's a RHD driver mirror with flat glass. Seems everywhere else in the world they use convex mirrors left and right.

This is exactly what I found when I attempted to use new exterior mirrors from a LHD W123 280TE on my RHD equivalent. The angles are wrong, the result being that a usable view is only achieved at the extreme end of the adjustment.

Basically, it doesn't work.

The W123 mirror bodies are angled differently. There are convex right side mirror inserts available (for manual or electric adjust). In RHD countries I've always wondered if they had an equivalent convex mirror insert for the left side mirror, that way I can use it to my LHD vehicle. I got too impatient and just bought a new glass insert for my W123 left mirror.

On the W124 and W201, I think the stock setup functions well. The square right side mirror actually allows me to look down when parking close to the curb.

I think the purpose of the longer mirror body on the left side is it allows the driver to view the cars positioned more rearward from the vehicle. Since the driver is already on the left side of the vehicle, visibility is not an issue when the driver looks left before switching lanes or turning left. On the other hand, the square mirror on the right side (far from the driver) allows the driver to see more laterally and more vertically, in addition to seeing behind the vehicle. These disabilities are negated when the driver is seated on the left side, so the square mirror is not required due to the ease with which the driver can compensate for visibility.
